  • 1866 - HG Wells was born on 21st September in Bromley, Kent.
  • 1877 - Joseph Wells had an accident that forced him to apprentice his sons.
  • 1880 - Wells was apprenticed to a draper, spending 1880-83 in Windsor and Southsea
  • 1883 - Wells became a teacher-pupil at Midhurst Grammar School
  • 1884 - Commences full-time studies at the Normal School of Science
  • 1891 - Wells settled in London, married his cousin Isabel and continued his career as a teacher.
  • 1895 - Wells left Isabel for one of his students, Amy Catherine (Jane) whom he married.
  • 1898 - Moves to Beach Cottage in Sandgate
  • 1900 - Moves into Spade House
  • 1901 - Birth of son Gip
  • 1903 - Son Frank is born & Joins the Fabian Society
  • 1908 - Resigns from the Fabian Society
  • 1909 - Wells' daughter Anna-Jane was born, he became president of the RCSA and he left Sandgate
  • 1914 - Wells had a love affair with Rebecca West. Their son Athony is born the same year.
  • 1946 - Wells died in London on August 13, 1946
